FAQ

Do you have to dig up my driveway or verge?

No, we will use aerial fibre that only entails us planting poles on your verge. We will take every precaution to cause the least amount of disturbance possible. We assure you that we will re-instate driveways and verges to their original condition, we will take responsibility should we cause any damage during this process. We will contact every resident prior to the installation and explain the process to be implemented. We warrantee all driveways and verges for 12 months, please call us should any problems occur.

Will I need to sign contract?

Yes you will need to but with a Service Provider on a month to month basis and not with PTZambia. We are able to assist you with this via our online portal in a one-stop shop.

How will you get the Fibre to my home?

The installation is a two-phase affair. During the first phase that is the main construction phase, we lay the Fibre cables down the verges and connect it to a small box on your boundary wall. This optical cable is connected back to your Internet. Your home is now “Fibre-ready”. And only requires having the Fibre pulled from the box into your home and connect it to the CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) should you wish to make use of the Fibre service.

How does the Community fit into the rollout of Fibre?

Laying Fibre is a disruptive and sometimes frustrating process. We believe communication and community engagement is key to what we believe is a community project at large. We have an open door policy and welcome any feedback or criticism on all projects; we will endeavor to attend any situation directly associated to our project within the community. And commit to ownership of challenges which we promise to resolve. Our team will ensure communication is constant resident friendly during our rollout. Residents will have access to our Email, Call Centre and Websites to ensure they are consistently ‘in the loop’.

Is there shaping or contention on PTZambia Fibre?

No, there isn’t. The GPON topology utilised by PTZambia means that there is no shaping, contention or throttling. The usage of other users does not impact on your speed; the speed you pay for is the speed you get! You are able to verify this at any time can conduct a speed test via our network.

Are uncapped data packages available?

PTZambia offers various packages to suit a multitude of data needs and budgets; both capped and uncapped options are available.

Who do I pay monthly?

Once your Fibre has been installed, you are invoiced a once-off installation fee by PTZambia. Thereafter you subscribe to a Service Provider of your choice for a monthly contract with a which is available through our online portal ptzambia.com

Who do I call when I have Service challenges?

Your Service Provider is responsible for faults please report to them. Service Providers do have access into the PTZambia network should they need to troubleshoot. Should they need further assistance from PTZambia, they log a fault.

Can the Fibre be used for our neighbourhood’s CCTV security cameras?

Due to the nature of Open Access add-ons such as Security Cameras is a simple addition. Open Access will also allow the community to change Security Service Provider at any time should they wish to due to the infrastructure been a separate entity.

Is aerial Fibre better and less disruptive than digging?

Either approach has pros and cons. Digging and laying cables in a trench requires greater capital outlay, is disruptive in the short term and poses risks to damage of existing services.

How long will the construction take?

It will take approximately 4-6 months to lay all the main cables for an PTZambia suburb. The duration is dependent on some third-party factors including council approval, we will routinely keep all residents updated.

What if you damage my property?

We endeavor to take every precaution to avoid causing damage. If we inadvertently do, we will repair it. Please be in touch with the PTZambia team on +260 211 232564.

How long will my home be effected by the construction?

An average suburban block takes under two weeks to complete; it is a disruption that will alleviate many future frustrations with slow downloads!

Will I need to wait for the entire suburban block to be completed until I can make use of Fibre?

Fibre is rolled out in phases, as they are completed the direct residents have access to begin making use of the service.

How do I arrange a connection once construction is complete?

The Fibre at your boundary wall will need to be connected to a location inside your home. You can arrange this by calling us at +260 211 232564. An installation date will be scheduled for our installation team to connect you.

Do I need to be at home for the installation?

We will require someone 18 years of age or older at home in order to show our installation team where you would like the equipment to be placed.

Will I need consent from my landlord?

Written consent from your landlord is requested should you not own the property the Consumer Premises Equipment (CPE) installed into.

What is the duration of the installation?

Typically it should take up to 5 hours should no complications arise.

What is the installation cost?

It’s a once off cost of 1500ZK, if you register in the survey phase you get the installation for free.

What is involved in the installation?

Once the first step of installing Fibre to the building is completed and signed off, the next step of connecting Fibre to each interested unit begins. A small Fibre Device is installed in the resident’s unit, which thereafter is connected to the building’s distribution box. Once this connection is done, your computer is ready for you to select a Service Provider from our Open Access Portal to begin enjoying the many benefits of Fibre.

Is the Consumer Premises Equipment (CPE) Wi-Fi enabled?

No, your wireless router will need to be plugged into the CPE device in your home in order to create your home’s wireless network.

What line speed do I need?

Your specific needs will determine the speeds you need. The speeds indicate how fast you would like data to download from the Internet. We recommend the  50Mbps for most home users and 100Mbps for tech-savvy, larger families, and homeworkers. Some who don’t use the internet very much other than email or doing the odd bit of banking should find 5 Mbps or 20Mbps suitable.

Am I able to upgrade my line speed?

Yes, at any time you are able to log on to our Open Access Portal and with a click of a button, you’re able to upgrade to a higher speed.

What if I finish my data bundle before the month is up?

Most ISP's offer uncapped packages that will last you the whole month however, depending on your ISP package, some offer a top-up service whilst others apply out-of-bundle rates. The various terms and conditions is available on the PTZambia portal.

Who do I call? When can I call?

A dedicated, permanent onsite team is available Monday to Friday 8-5, and an after-hours emergency line to assist clients with all Internet challenges, including printer and email difficulties is in place.
